Dr. Alfred Winn Smith, 95, retired professor at Memphis State University, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at his residence in Benton Hall. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville with Joe Rhodes officiating. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Franklin County native was the son of the late Burr Paty Smith and Mary Elizabeth Smith Smith. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Vanderbilt University and his Doctor's degree from George Peabody College. Survivors include his wife, Lillian Marie Burrow Smith of Coumbia; son, Donald Winn (Lynn) Smith of Columbia; and a granddaughter, Airman First Class, Allison (Jason) Lesch of Del Rio, Texas.
