Alice Steele Watkins Marshall

Alice Steele Watkins Marshall, 80, longtime secretary of General Machine Works and resident of Hidden Lake Circle, died Thursday, January 31, 2019 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Father Chris Bowhay officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born April 8, 1938 in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Albert Lee Watkins and the late Sara Mae Steele Watkins. She was a 1956 graduate of Columbia Central High School and earned her Associates degree. Mrs. Marshall made her home in Pirmasens, Germany during her husband’s military service and they lived in Cookeville during his college years before returning to Columbia in June 1960. A very fun-loving person, Mrs. Marshall enjoyed playing bridge, fishing and playing games. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband of sixty-two years, Clement “Buddy” Marshall of Columbia; sons, Kenneth Paul (Beth) Marshall, Robert Marshall, and Gary (Jacque) Marshall, all of Columbia; daughter, Leslie Ann Bratton of Santa Fe; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Al Watkins; and grandparents, Rip & Fannie Steele, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will include Betty & Jerry Haynes, Paulette & Ashley Brown, Frankie & Doug Church, Jim Whitehead, Emmy Edmondson, members of the Table of Knowledge and Servers at Bucky’s Restaurant.
