Alma Harmon Maxwell, 92, longtime resident of Old Highway 99, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Elmer Lusk and Kenny McFarlen officiating. Burial wil follow in Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 2:00 - 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late George Nicholson Harmon and Sallie Della Underwood Harmon. On March 1, 1946 she married Joel David Maxwell who preceded her in death June 12, 1984. Mrs. Maxwell was retired as Supervisor from Dixie Manufacturing with several years' employment; and after her retirement, she was an Assistant at First United Methodist Church Weekday School. She enjoyed reading and flowers. She was a member of New Lasea Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Maxwell McArthur of Lynnville; grandson, Brian Allen Pigg of Portland; great grandsons, Dalton Pigg and Jase Pigg, both of Portland; sisters-in-law, Eugenia Hardison Harmon and Rebecca Derryberry Harmon, both of Columbia; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Doyle & Sandy Collins, Annie Grissom, Bettye Brown, and Homer Ring. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Ulna Harmon, Harlan Harmon, Millard "Bill" Harmon, Kenny Harmon, and Dillard Harmon; and two sisters, Della Harmon Crafton and Haddie Collins. Active pallbearers include John Waldrum, Greg Grissom, Ron Strand, Ron Henegar, Bobby Harmon, and Homer Ring.. Honorary pallbearers will be members of New Lasea Church of Christ.
