Andrew Meglis, Jr., 87, retired machine operator for Morey-Larue Dry Cleaning Company in Linden, New Jersey and resident of West Ninth Street, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Born in Branchdale, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Andrew Meglis, Sr. and Mary Rebeck Meglis. Mr. Meglis made his home in Columbia for the past 11 years and was a communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church. He previously lived in Old Bridge, New Jersey, was member of the MOOSE Lodge in Linden, New Jersey and Fulton Street Boys' Club in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Survivors include his wife, Connie Miscavage Meglis of Columbia; daughter, Isabell "Peggie" Meglis (Joel) Turpin of Hampton, New Jersey; sons, Andrew (Mary) Meglis, III of Columbia and Roy Meglis of Plainsboro, New Jersey; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a niece, Sue Karlik of St. Petersburg, Florida. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
