Anita Karen Spencer Brooks, 68, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be conducted at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 3-5pm, with services to follow at 5pm. Karen was born August 20, 1956, in Chapel Hill, TN to the late Marion Mclean Spencer and the late Martha White Spencer. She graduated from Forest High School in 1974 and then went to Columbia State Community College where she received her Computer Science Associate Degree. For many years she worked as a Computer Programmer and later a librarian for Local Government Data Processing Corp. 

She was very involved and instrumental in many Maury County charities and civic clubs including the Miracle League, Special Olympics, Challenger League Baseball, Christmas Star, GFWC Maury County Women’s Club, and charter member of Columbia Lions Club. For more than 25 years she also operated the concession stand for the Columbia National League, while also being a Board Member. She attended many churches over her lifetime and was a devoted Christian that was of the Cumberland Presbyterian faith. 

Survivors include her husband of 44 years Charles Ray Brooks; two sons, Charles Spencer Brooks, Sr. (Cynthia) and Joseph Mclean Brooks (Ashley Shew) both of Columbia; five grandchildren, Aubree Marie Brooks, Franklin Mclean Brooks, Isabelle de la Salud Brooks, Charles Spencer Brooks Jr., and Evelyn Olivia Brooks; four children that she reared as her own grandchildren, Coltan Harley Bond, Elan Shadow Bond, Christabell Anne Bond, and Ashtynn Lilith Bond; a sister Tara Spencer Johns; and niece, Tanya Zaleski Jernigan.
