Mr. Arch G. Patterson, 94, died Monday, September 25, 2017 at his residence on Hampshire Pike.Services will be conducted on Thursday, September 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Steve Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, May 12, 1923, he was the son of Arch and Beulah Hughey Patterson. He grew up in Lewis County, Tennessee before moving to Columbia. Arch loved living with Wayne on his farm and enjoyed raising cattle for many years. Arch was a faithful servant of God and his country, having served in the U.S. Army during WWII from January 1943 - April 1947. He was honored for service to his country at the 2015 Columbia Memorial Day Service with presentation of the flag. Arch was privileged to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. with fellow veterans. He served on the Maury County Commission for 12 years, representing District 9 for eight years (1990-1998) and District 7 for four years (2006-2010). He was a long-time employee (47 years) of Porter Walker, Inc.Arch loved the Lord and his family. He was a member of The Gideons International, since June 1975. He was previously a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene, serving as Sunday school superintendent for 14 years as well as a member of the church board. He is a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed being active in his Sunday school class. Survivors include three sons, Wayne Patterson, Mike (Diane) Patterson, Steve (Deb) Patterson all of Columbia; one daughter, Brenda Patterson of Hermitage, TN.; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Keith) O'Dell of Memphis, TN, Whitney Patterson of Murfreesboro, TN, Matt (Kate) Patterson of Spring Hill, TN, and John (Jenny) Patterson of East Lansing, Michigan; four great grandchildren, Heath Patterson, Foster, Monroe, and Griffen O'Dell.He is preceded in death by Joyce Foster Patterson, his wife of 54 years as well as eight brothers and two sisters.Pallbearers will be Matt Patterson, John Patterson, Keith O'Dell, Wendell Patterson, Boyd M. Patterson, James Thomas Patterson, Milton Patterson, Chester (CH) Hutchinson, and Mike Bolton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Columbia Camp of The Gideons International, members of the Senior Adult Sunday School at First Church of the Nazarene, James M. Fleming, John C. Porter, Edgar Deason, Jay Biache and all other former employees of Porter Walker, Inc., employees of Ace Hardware, Van Boshers, Mayor Jim Bailey, Michael Burek, Jerry Atkinson, Don Howell, James H. Currie, Enoch George, Ashley Brown, Krista Peterson, Dr. John Maloof, and caregivers, Lillie Anderson, and Teresa Held.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideons International P.O.
