Audrey Payne

Mrs. Audrey Sanders Payne, 96, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and former resident of Woods Drive, died Friday, October 24, 2014 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Elsey officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to West End Baptist Church, 900 West Seventh Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born October 4, 1918 in Toombs County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Ralph N. Sanders and India Durden Sanders. On December 17, 1938 she married Lee Roy "Pete" Payne who preceded her in death on August 29, 2003. Mrs. Payne was a charter member of West End Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Petey (Mary Eleanor "Mel") Payne of Columbia; beloved nephew, Sonny (Sharon) Thomas of Columbia; sisters, Joyce (Larry) Massey of Fayetteville and Jackie (Joe) Dale of Columbia; grandchildren, Ben (Barbara) Payne, Lee Payne, Matt Payne, Joshua (Rhonda) Payne; great grandchildren, Brett (Erin) Payne, Megan Payne, Brandon Payne, Jacob Payne, Pressley Payne; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Jester, Jerri Hill, and Billie Harmon; and two brothers, Roy Sanders and Ralph Sanders. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.
