Aurelia Lovell Reed, 93, a longtime resident of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Allie Lee Compton Lovell; her husband, Joe B. Reed; her brothers L.Z. and Monroe Lovell; and her infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Lovell Reed. She is survived by her son Jerome “Jerry” (Kimberly) Reed of Nashville, her granddaughter Olivia Grace Reed of St. Louis, her sister-in-law Mary Margaret Lovell, and several nieces and nephews and their families.She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1942, and married Joe B. Reed on August 6, 1946, immediately upon his return from a two-year tour of duty as a Marine in the South Pacific; they were married for 42 years. She worked in the Maury County School system, and as a bookkeeper for several different Columbia businesses. In her later years she enjoyed volunteering at Maury Regional Hospital. She reveled in cultivating friendships that began in elementary school and lasted a lifetime; her wide circle of friends from Central High School were known as “the Gang” and met together regularly from graduation in the early 1940s until recently. She loved family gatherings, her dogs and granddogs, and flowers: she was renowned for her extraordinary green thumb. She passed her love of music on to her son and took great pleasure in his musical development.She was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Pallbearers are her niece and nephews Linda Liggett Meyer, Louis Liggett, Lee Liggett, Harlan Ogle, Jeff Klein, and Alan Foster. Honorary pallbearers are her Sunday School class at Graymere Church. The family thanks her wonderful group of caregivers: Amanda Lewis, April Ray, Margie Perry, and Joanne Nicholson, as well as all those who brought her meals in recent months.Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home in Columbia, TN and 10 - 11 a.m. Wednesday at Graymere Church of Christ. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at Graymere Church of Christ in Columbia, with burial in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia.Contributions in her memory may be made to the Patricia and Rodes Hart Fund for piano education at Lipscomb University.
