Miss Barbara Joe Parsons, 69, retired from Union Carbide Corporation and resident of Third Avenue in Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, January 18, 2008 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Pastor Jim Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Joe Clay Parsons and Bessie Lee Pruitt Parsons. She was a 1956 graduate of Hay Long High School where she was a standout member of the basketball team. Later in life, she was an avid bowler. Miss Parsons attended Liberty Baptist Church. Survivors include three brothers-in-law, Luther "L.A." Garrett of Lawrenceburg, James F. "Jimmy" Russell of Williamsport, and Bill Brown of Lawrenceburg; a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Parsons of Mt. Pleasant; special friend, Coach Howard Gamble of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by nine sisters, Mildred Jarrett, Mary Frances Perry, Freddie Jane Mullens, Gladys Marie McCulley, Grace Harthun, Bettie Ann Russell, Beverly Jean Garrett, Sylvia Earline Brown, and Doris Ophelia Parsons; and four brothers, Joe Allison Parsons, Johnnie Ray Parsons, Floyd English Parsons, and William Wayne Parsons.
