Mr. Ben Watkins Murphy, 73, retired from E.I. Dupont and Spontex Corporation, and a resident of the Campbellsville Pike, died Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan and Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or Graymere Church of Christ Mission Work. The Maury County native was the son of the late Webster Murphy and Margaret Watkins Murphy. He was a 1948 graduate of Columbia Central High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and Hardison Mill Camping Club. Mr. Murphy was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Joan Roe Murphy of Columbia; two daughters Mrs. Roan (Bobby G.) Bradley, Jr. of Athens, Alabama, Mrs. Margo (Donald W.) Mills of Columbia; and four grandchildren, Gene Bradley, Kate Bradley, Joanna Mills, and Jamie Mills. Pallbearers will be Paul Carpenter, Shelby Carpenter, James R. (Ricky) Murphy, James Warren Murphy, Bobby Bradley, Donald Mills, Bruce Duffer, and David Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Hardison Mill Campers, Inc. and the Skelton-Hardison Sunday School Class of Graymere Church of Christ.
