View Funeral WebcastBenjamin Wesley Hancock, a resident of Columbia, died Monday, September 18, 2017 at his home. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 3:00-7:00 P.M. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 10:00 A.M., with a brief period of visitation prior to the services. Inurnment will be held at 3:00 P.M. in Pleasant Valley, Alabama. In addition to his wife of 62 years, Mary Frances, Ben is survived by four children - David Hancock of Philadelphia, PA, Lisa (Jim) Selbe of Columbia, Lora (Bob) Baulsir of Ft Worth, TX, and Derek (Leslie) Hancock of Pensacola, FL. He has four grandchildren - Wes (Rachel) Selbe, Ben (Emily) Selbe, Allison Hunter (Len) Payne, and Seth Hunter; 2 step-grandchildren, Page Spinoso and Luca Spinoso and a great grandson Lennon Payne III (Trip).Ben was born in Welch, West Virginia on August 25, 1928, and graduated from West Virginia University. At the time of his retirement, he was Executive Vice President of International Mill Service Inc., a provider of materials handling services to steel mills worldwide. From his office in Philadelphia, he traveled extensively both in the United States and overseas. In the early 1960s, Ben was Plant Manager of the Hooker Chemical Company plant in Columbia, and came back here to retire in 1991, to be near his family, many of whom lived in this area. Ben loved, enjoyed and appreciated his family. He was a member of the West 7th Street Church of Christ. He has been a Rotarian since 1961, was a Paul Harris Fellow and served as the club's Treasurer for many years. He is a former member of the Maury County Industrial Development Board and was on the Board of Directors of Columbia Machine Works. He is one of the founders of the Burger King Morning Coffee Club, where world problems are solved daily. He was a baseball enthusiast and a phervent Phillies phan. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Porter King Sunday School class at West 7th Street Church of Christ, Rotarians and members of the Burger King Coffee Club. The family would like to thank Dr. John Maloof for his many years of kind and dedicated care.
