Benton Sloan Foster, 23, employee of Sherwin Williams and resident of Columbia, died Sunday, October 15, 2017, at St. Thomas West Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 P.M. at West Seventh Street Church of Christ with Corey Bell, Barney Burns, and his father, Joe Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends at West Seventh Street Church of Christ Thursday from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Friday from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born April 18, 1994 in Maury County, he was the son of Joe Randall Foster of Columbia and Dawn Childress (Lonnie) Harvey of Columbia. Benton was a 2012 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. A music enthusiast, he was a 3rd generation member of the Columbia Central High School Band. He played bass and snare drum in the Marching Band and was a member of the Wind Symphony. Benton assisted as an instructor of the Columbia Central High School Band percussion section. He was that logical voice of reason, the calm cool and collected one, a rock and role model in which anyone who paid attention could learn something about life. He served as lighting engineer for the family band, Foster Party of 8. He was also an avid Vanderbilt basketball and football fan. He was a member of Culleoka Church of Christ. Benton's legacy will live on in each and every person who knew him. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Sarah Ann (Ryan) Baker of Culleoka; brother, Robert Andrew (Olivia) Foster of Chattanooga; fiancée, Alischa Caitlyn Pettis of Columbia; niece and his pride and joy, Ryleigh Jo-Ann Baker of Culleoka; nephew, Harrison Sanders Foster of Chattanooga; uncle, David (Pam) Foster of Culleoka; and cousins, Jake Foster, Anna Foster (Ryan) Kennedy, Ellie Foster (Will) Pettus and their children Ada Pettus and Hank Pettus. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert Childress & Ruth Hargrove Childress, and paternal grandparents, William Sloan Foster & Jo-Ann Dugger Foster. Active pallbearers will be Mark Witherow, Danny Fleming, Chip Davis, Robert Rummage, Houston Paul, Tyler Staggs, Nick Stiles, and Curtis Hatfield. Honorary pallbearers will include Ceshia Bearden, Emily Deane, Jeremy Ponds, Blake McWilliams, Jonathan Kendall, Eric Boshers, Jenna Peck, Ramzi Naddy, Corey Bearden, Laken Bearden, Briannah Martin, Trevor Baxter, Blair Boothe, Dr. Chris Janowiecky, Dr. John Spooner, nurses of St. Thomas West Neuro ICU, Foster Party of 8, employees of Sherwin Williams, and members of Columbia Central High School Band.
