Bernard Orville Stofel, 86, retired Director of Sanitation for the City of Columbia, died Friday, September 23, 2005 at his residence on Highland Avenue. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with David Stofel officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late J. W. "Wes" Stofel and Pearl Daimwood Stofel. Mr. Stofel served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a former Columbia fireman and police officer and had owned and operated Stofel's Boot Store on South Main Street for several years. He attended the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Willie Mae Huff Stofel of Columbia; two sons, Charles W. (Barbara) Stofel of Columbia; Dwight S. (Kathi) Stofel of Culleoka; one brother, James D. Stofel of Columbia; one sister, Virginia S. Crowson of Columbia; four grandchildren, John (Betsie) Stofel, George (Shannon) Stofel, Jessica Stofel, Scott Stofel; and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be George Stofel, John Stofel, Scott Stofel, Douglas L. Wright, Sr., Douglas L. Wright, Jr., Wade Allen, Mike Allen, James L. Stofel, and Darren Wright.
