View Funeral WebcastMr. Berney Anderson Hobbs, Jr., 66, owner-operator of Hobbs Services, LLC for 41 years, farmer and resident of the Culleoka Community, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Wendell Robinson officiating. Burial will follow on property he donated as a extension to Friendship Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Culleoka Fire Department, P. O. Box 13, Culleoka 38451 or Culleoka Church of Christ, P. O. Box 203, Culleoka 38451. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. A 5th generation Culleokan, he was the son of the late Berney Anderson Hobbs, Sr. and Sadie Hill Hobbs. He enjoyed stories about "Sweetwater," the meaning of the Native American name Culleoka. He was a 1961 graduate of Culleoka High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University. His many certifications included Master Plumber, Master Electrician, and Master HVAC Technician. Mr. Hobbs was a supporter of the Culleoka Fire Department and enjoyed horses and cattle farming on his Echo Valley Ranch and "pickin'and grinnin.'" He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Lindrel (Jason) Moates of Murfreesboro; sons, Berney A. "Sonny" (Stacy) Hobbs, III of Thompson Station and Daniel (Jennifer) Hobbs of Culleoka; sister, Sylvia (Dewey) Gray of Culleoka; grandchildren, Seth Hobbs, Alec Hobbs, Sarah Hobbs, Brandon Baker, Brittni Baker, Tristan Hobbs, Cayden White, Landon Thornton, and Miles Becket Moates; a niece, Gwen (Todd) Ragan; nephew, Greg (Kim) Gray; 5 great-nieces and great-nephews. Active pallbearers are "Sonny" Hobbs, Daniel Hobbs, Keith Darnell, Alec Hobbs, Seth Hobbs, Jason Moates, Greg Gray, and Tim Beaver. Honorary pallbearers include Bill Skinner, Jerry Weatherford, and employees of Hobbs Services.
