MRS. BERTHA DICKINSON GUNNEL Mrs. Bertha Williams Dickinson Gunnel, 86, resident of Trotwood Avenue, died Friday, January 9, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Bob Adair and Rev. J. O. Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, 38105. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Winston County, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Ross Williams and Nisha Orton Williams. Mrs. Gunnel was a supervisor for Dixie Manufacturing Company for twenty years and later for Weather Tamer for eighteen years. She was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Jody Dickinson of Columbia and Judy (James, Sr.) Medkiff of Memphis; a daughter-in-law, Mavis Dickinson Nims of Portland, Oregan; special friend, Dianne Vaughn of Columbia; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her loving miniature Chihuahua, "Tipper." She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Dickinson, Sr. in 1971 and a son, Charles Douglas "Doug" Dickinson, Sr. in 1994. Pallbearers are James Medkiff, Jr., Jeremy Medkiff, Charles Douglas Dickinson, Jr., Pamela Medkiff, Lee Vaughn, Jr., Adam York, Gilbert Marlowe.
