Bettie Vernon Sparkman

Bettie Vernon Sparkman, 90, retired employee of Bellsouth and resident of 6th Avenue, died Friday, March 22, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with John Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Alexander Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born December 19, 1928 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late William Ollie Vernon and the late Mary Jane McKissick Vernon. On June 28, 1952, she married Francis Thomas “Tom” Sparkman who preceded her in death September 14, 2009. Mrs. Sparkman was a member of Graymere Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Charlie) Ingram; son, Pat Sparkman; grandchildren, Hunter (Marion) Ingram, Anna (Ben) Ballou, Lindsey Sparkman Boyle, Matthew Sparkman, Sabrina Robertson; great grandchildren, Taylor Kay Duran, Hailee Robertson, Justin Kain Boyle, Jewellyn Kayana Boyle, Dani Joy Sparkman, Isla Ruth Ingram, Emerson Elizabeth Ingram, and Ryder Elliott Ballou; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Vernon, Wallace Vernon, Carl Vernon, and Jack Vernon. Active pallbearers will be Larry Dale, Bob Coley, Jim Coley, Hanes Sparkman, Lexie Sparkman, Skip Sparkman, and Gary Harmon. Honorary pallbearers include Williams, Riddle, and Martin Bible School Class at Graymere Church of Christ.
