Mrs. Betty Blythe Childrey Goats, 82, homemaker and retired cook for Village Market, died Sunday, March 1, 2009 at her residence on West 13th Street. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late D. B. Childrey, Sr. and Bertha Lee Robertson Childrey. She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Goatz Reece of Columbia; son, Mike (Sis) Goatz of Columbia; brother, Robert "Bobby" (Jean) Childrey of Columbia; grandchildren, Lori Evans, Kristy Scribner, Charlie Goatz, Stacey Mashburn, Mark Goatz, Josh Balcewicz, John Reece, Ginger Dunn, and Ryan Goatz; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law Lori Goatz and Edwina Goatz of Columbia; and sister-in-law, Willa Childrey of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Goatz on May 29, 1987; sons, Charles "Butch" Goatz, Phillip Goatz, Dennis Goatz and his wife, Patsy Blair Goatz; a grandson, Phillip "Jay" Goatz; and brothers, D. B. "Buster" Childrey, Jr., Wendell Childrey, and Billy Childrey. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
