MISS BETTY HEDRICK Miss Betty Lynn Hedrick, 39, local artist and resident of Rolling Fields Circle, died Monday, August 12, 2002, at Maury Regional Hospital. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church Building Fund, Maury County Arts Guild, and American Cancer Society. The Maury County native was the daughter of Mary Lib Drewry Hedrick of Columbia and the late Irwin "Butch" Hedrick. She was a 1981 graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended Columbia State Community College, Middle Tennessee State University and was a graduate of Nashville Tech with a degree in Graphic Arts. Miss Hedrick's career as a professional fine artist and graphic artist began eighteen years ago in Nashville. She had worked nearly coast to coast with her artistic inspiration taking her from Destin, Florida to Taos, New Mexico to Modesto, California. Shows of her work in San Francisco, La Jolla, The Sony Art Walk in San Diego and The Taos Spring Arts Festival were important milestones in this journey. During her career in Nashville, Miss Hedrick helped launch "Untitled," the city's first multimedia and performance art group. Her work has appeared at Local Color Gallery in Nashville and is featured in corporate and private collections throughout the United States. Her unique talent enabled her to work alongside other noteworthy artists including Paul Harmon and Red Grooms. Miss Hedrick's exploration into other mediums included mixed media pieces to honor the traditional Native American elders who had taught her, while celebrating humanity's connection with nature. Miss Hedrick's most recent shows include "One" hosted by the Nashville Jazz Workshop in January 2002 and "Art Attack" presented by Mount Pleasant Main Street in June 2002. In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sisters, Cindy Hedrick of Columbia; Mrs. Nicole (Shane) Clark of Columbia; one half-sister, Julia Crunk of Whitehouse; one half-brother, Frank West of Whitehouse; and two nephews, Allen Gregor Clark and Benjamin Clark, both of Columbia. Honorary pallbearers will be her caretakers, Dr. Charles Wendt, Dr. John F. Worthman, Dr. C. Houston Jameson, III, Dr. Mark Messenger, Dr. Steven Woodley, Dr. George Azar, and staff at Maury Regional Hospital, and Ron Eversole.
