Miss Betty Jean Howell Miss Betty Jean Howell, 71, retired Social Security employee and resident of Oakdale Drive, died Monday, April5, 2004 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 8p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 222 West Seventh St., Columbia, TN, 38401. The Davidson County native was the daughter of the late Herschel Howell and Elise Lockhart Howell. She lived most of her life in Maury County and was a graduate of Columbia Central High School, a supporter of the Maury County Animal Shelter and a former member of the Columbia Business and Professional Women's Organization. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include two uncles, William C. "Bill" (Mary Frances) Howell, Sr. of Knob Creek, James I. (Betty Ann) Howell of Columbia; several cousins; and special friend, Tom McKee of Jackson. Pallbearers will be A.C. Howell, Gene Howell, Robin Howell, Randy Howell, Mark Howell, Gary Howell, Steve Howell and Doug Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Kennedy, Wayne Kennedy, Jerry Kennedy, Lee Brown, Dr. Thomas Dake, Dr. Amit Choksi, Dr. Ralph Barr, the staff of Alterra Sterling House, the staff of NHC Hillview and former employees of the Social Security office.
