Betty Jean Potts Mearse, 78, former longtime resident of Mockingbird Drive, died Thursday, June 22, 2017, at her daughter's residence in Murfreesboro. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Ronnie Grooms officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. Born June 19, 1939, in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Hilburn Potts and the late Fannie Bell Morton Potts. She was married to George Mearse who preceded her in death May 8, 1995. For several years she was employed at Bel-Air Nursing Home as a Certified Medication Technician. She enjoyed walking, knitting, and crocheting; but truly adored caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters, Thersia (Brad) Caswell of Murfreesboro and Melissa (Douglas Duke) Turner of Hampshire; stepchildren, Lesia Bell Traylor, Donna Helton, and Danny Mearse, all of Alabama; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Butler of Columbia, Mary McClanahan of Santa Fe, Catherine (Lee) Krenz of Columbia; Wanda Morris of Columbia; Charlene Miller of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Minor and two sisters, Patricia Pratt and Effie Black. Pallbearers will be Matthew Franklin, Joseph Franklin, Johnathan Franklin, Dustin Stewart, Daniel Stewart, J. D. Wood, Jules Franklin, and George Wood.
