View Funeral WebcastView Video Tribute Mrs. Betty Jo Johnson Peters, 61, resident of Rainey St., died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Park Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Proctor officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. The family suggests memorials to Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The East Prairie, Missouri native was the daughter of the late Robert Harold Johnson and Theta Jo Brown Johnson. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, cooking and reading. She loved children and was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Peters was an active member of Highland Park Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery and loved singing in the choir. Her ministry was praying for others and sending thoughtful cards just when needed. Survivors include her husband of forty two years, Roger Lee Peters of Columbia; daughter, Amanda "Ami" Jo (Michael) Milligan of Columbia; son, Michael (Charlene) Peters of Anderson Air Force Base, Guam; grandchildren, Connor Milligan, Riley Milligan; brothers, Jesse (Evonne) Johnson of Illinois, Calvin Johnson of Missouri; sisters, Mary Cutler of Texas, Burna (Billy) Shelton of Coalmont, Tennessee, Elaine (Benny) Nelson of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lurlean Maneno and two brothers, Larry Johnson and Robert Johnson. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Mickey Hooker, Susan Thurman, Debi West, Carolyn Hight and the Deacons of Highland Park Baptist Church. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses who cared for Mrs. Peters during her illness.
