Bette Sue Brannock Murphy, 92, retired 7th and 8th grade Science teacher at Whitthorne Middle School, died October 28, 2019 in Florence, Alabama where she made her home for the past few years. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Tony Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday form 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Born July 4, 1927 in Dexter, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late William Vane Brannock and the late Evelyn Anna Pearson Brannock. On December 21, 1947, she married Lawrence Grady “Tubby” Murphy who preceded her in death May 13, 2010. Mrs. Murphy earned her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Tennessee Tech University and worked towards her Master’s degree at Peabody University in Nashville. Mrs. Murphy was a trained pianist, avid gardener and animal lover. She was a former member of the Maury Regional Volunteer Auxiliary, Retired Teachers Association, Maury County Garden Club, and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her son, William Read (Doris) Murphy of Columbia; daughters, Rebecca Sue Murphy (Donna Dubbelde) of Spring Hill; Tricia Anna Murphy (David) Brown of Tuscumbia, Alabama; Molly Dee Murphy (Britt) Locke of Milan; grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Call-Hughes, Amy Rebecca Call (Jeremy) Luna, Rob Murphy (Lindsay) Call, Andrew Glenn Locke (Mark Baldwin), John Lawrence (Claire) Locke; great grandchildren, Bailey Luna, Macy Luna, Emma Hughes, Grady Hughes, Stella Hughes, Mac Call, Murphy Call, Salem Locke, Jaclyn Locke; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Brannock and Bill Brannock; and beloved dog, Scotty. Active pallbearers will be Manuel Young, Hal Landers, Jim Borum, Andrew Locke, John Locke, Rob Call, and David Brown.
