Bettye Sue Cole Grigsby, 80, retired secretary and resident of Santa Fe Pike, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. David Spencer and Rev. Jim Norton officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Riverside United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 392, Columbia, TN 38402. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born December 22, 1937 in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Julian David Cole and the late Addie Jane Fly Cole. On February 1, 1962, she married William Beasley “W.B.” Grigsby, Sr., who preceded her in death March 28, 2016 after fifty-four years of marriage. She was a 1955 graduate of Columbia Central High School and had worked as a secretary for the State of Tennessee. Mrs. Grigsby was very devoted to her family, loved children and ran a childcare in her home for several years. She was an accomplished seamstress and an enthusiastic reader. She enjoyed singing and was a former member of the choir of Riverside United Methodist Church of which she was a member. Survivors include her children, Elizabeth “Beth” Grigsby Cook of Hampshire, William Beasley “Billy” (Kim) Grigsby, Jr. and Rebecca “Becky” Grigsby (Darren) Bobo, both of Columbia; godchild, Scott (Sarah) Logan of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Carolyn (Edward) Jarrett of Columbia and Mary (Stan) Coffman of Culleoka; brother, David Cole of Chapel Hill; brothers-in-law, Bob Ramsey of Spring Hill and Ray Uptain of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Martha Ann Grigsby (Bruce) Hieronymus of Savannah and Ida Eugenia Grigsby (Bob) Pratt of Brandon, Florida; grandchildren, Andrew (Whitney) Owens of Summertown and Jesse (Marissa) Owens of Culleoka; great grandchild, Paisley Rae Owens; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Evelyn Harwood, Joanne Ramsey, Claire Malugin, and Janice Uptain. Active pallbearers will be Todd Pratt, Monty Uptain, Tim Ramsey, Andrew Owens, Jesse Owens, Stan Coffman, Jeremy Taft, and Ray Uptain. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Jim Hewgley Sunday School Class and Riverside United Methodist Church Choir. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Life Care Center and the nurses of 2nd Floor Stepdown Unit at Maury Regional Medical Center.
