BILL BOLTON Mr. William E. "Bill" Bolton, 74, retired employee of E.I. DuPont Company and Spontex and lifelong resident of Columbia, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Michael E. Williams, Blakemore UMC in Nashville, officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Thursday from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. The Maury county native was the son of the late Turner and Lillian Thompson Bolton. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the Trustees, member of the Administrative Board and member of the United Methodist Men. He worked for over six years with The Rainbow Sound and the Youth of the church. Mr. Bolton was a member of the Columbia Jaycees for about eleven years where he held different offices. He coached Babe Ruth Baseball for several years and was instrumental, along with his late brother Herc Bolton, in obtaining the Babe Ruth League its own park. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Lindsey Bolton of Columbia; one daughter, Lauri Kaye (Phillip Wade) Burns of Columbia; one son, Lindsey Michael (Paige Franklin) Bolton of Jefferson City; one grandson, William Parker Bolton (his name sake) of Jefferson City; one brother-in-law, Houston (Beatrice) Lindsey of Dothan, Alabama; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Smelser of Nashville, Mrs. Harriett Bolton of Columbia; nephews, Gerry Lindsey, Jimmy Lindsey, David Lindsey, Jeff Bolton; and nieces, Terri (Ronnie) Skipper, Kathy (Reid) Underwood and Vickie Lindsey. Pallbearers will be Richard Brown, Tommy Bates, Jimmy Russell, Jim Cook, Jim Cartwright, Jimmy Matthews and Wendell Harmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Houston Lindsey, Reid Underwood, Ronnie Skipper, Gerry Lindsey, Keith Lindsey, Jimmy Lindsey, David Lindsey, Jeff Bolton, Leroy Burns, Eric Burns, Ed Thomas, Bill Brusse, Luther Parham, Ulna Fox, G.W. Miller, J. B. Long, Phil Meissner, Jim Carrigan, Howard Robinson, Shelby Carpenter, Joe Waddle, Ed Chumley, J.B. Grant, Robert Elliott, Cam Anderson, Jim Lester, Ernest Allen, Bill Abernathy, Tommy Hight, Sr., Earl Moore, Ken Loveless, Tommy Lawwell, Ron Daugherty, Jerry Cook, Jr., Neal Fogg, Trey Brown, James (Jay) Franklin, retired DuPont and Spontex employees, American Legion Post 19, members of Babe Ruth and Post 19 ball players from 1960-1980's, members of CHS Class of 1948, members of the Rainbow Sound, and Burger King Coffee Drinkers.
