Mr. Bill C. Plant, Sr., 79, owner-operator of Plant Propane Gas Company and Plant Gas Company for fifty-eight years and long-time resident of Spring Hill, died Saturday, May 21, 2005 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 4:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Andrew Mayton and Rev. Phillip Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Masonic Rites observed at 7:00 p.m. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Dickson County native was the son of the late Marion W. Plant and Hazel Minerva Cox Plant. He was a 1946 graduate of Spring Hill High School. He served as a U. S. Army Air Corps pilot during World War II earning an Air Medal and three European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medals. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, Spring Hill Masonic Lodge #124, a York Rite Mason, Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. He was a former President of the Tennessee Gas Association. Mr. Plant was a long-time active member of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Mary Ann Owens Plant of Spring Hill; three daughters, Mary Lynn Pogue of Columbia, Marion Hope (Terry) Caroll of Jasper, Indiana and Hazel Ann (Wayne) Simcox of Cookeville; a son, Bill Cox (Linda) Plant, Jr. of Columbia; two sisters, Betty (Tom) Byrd of Nashville and Linda (Glenn) Redman of Franklin; nine grandchildren, Eric (Christy) Pogue, Rainey (Kenvin) Sisk, Billy Cox Plant, III, Melissa (Tim) King, Patrick Simcox, Robert Simcox, Mary Ann Simcox, Nicholas Carroll and Andrew Carroll; six great-grandchildren, Tyler King, Wesley Sisk, Adam Sisk, Andrew Sisk, Lauran Ashley Belew, and Morgan Belew.Grandchildren will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include former employees of of Plant Propane Gas Company, current employees of Plant Gas Company, George Jones, Lee Dugger, Robby Adkins, Omer Mayo, J. W. Bowman, J. O. Sharpton, Ralph Ussery and members of Spring Hill United Methodist Church.
