Billy Eugene Brunson, 80, retired self-employed carpenter, painter, farmer, and former long-time resident of Highland Avenue, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at St. Thomas Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Jay Hoppus officiating. Burial will be in Godwin-Chappell Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Pleasant, he was the son of the late Eugene Brunson and Flora Lovell Brunson and served in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include nieces, Brenda (Steve) Westmoreland, Teresa Walters, Cindy (Larry) Swift, and Sherry (Tommy) Underwood; nephews, Leonard Wayne "Rusty" (Brenda) Baker and Keith "Oop" (Tonya) Baker; several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adelia Hedrick King Brunson, April 18, 2006; sisters, Hattie Frances Harris, Betty Ruth Baker Massey, and Jo Ann Sims; nephew, Michael Harris; and great-nephew, Jeremy Ray Allen. Active pallbearers are Rusty Baker, Pete Lovell, Wayne Brunson, Frank Duncan, Tommy Underwood, and Keith "Oop" Baker. Joe Easley will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
