Billy Ray Jones better known as "Daddy Bill", 85, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 at his residence in Culleoka, Tennessee. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at South Gate Church of Christ with John Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with Joe Macer officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. at South Gate Church of Christ and again on Wednesday from 12:30 - 2:00 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Born September 10th, 1932, he was the son of the late Alfred Barkley "A.B." and the late Thelma Louise Jones. He was enlisted in the United States Army from 1953-1954 where he served in Korea. He was also a member of the Tennessee National Guard. He was co-owner of the family owned business, A.B. Jones and Sons car lot. Not only did he enjoy working with his brothers in the family business, he also enjoyed farming, riding motorcycles, fishing, going to the beach, and spending time with his family. After he retired from the car business he worked at Maury County Park in ground maintenance. Above all else, the most important thing to him during his lifetime was to serve the Lord. He was a dedicated member of Eastside Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and later also served as a Facilities Caretaker at South Gate Church of Christ. You could always find him on the second row. Bill is survived by his wife and best friend for 65 years, Peggy Wilson Jones. He is also survived by his six children, Pam (Steve) Burgett, Linda Kuykendall, Donna (Mike) Hubbell, Randy (Melissa) Jones, Roger Jones, and Lori Jones. He is survived by eleven grandchildren, Chris Burgett, Alissa Davidson, Andrea Handschug, Trevor Scott, Dylan Hubbell, Alex Jones, Jessica Daniels, Tara Jones-Reese, Josh Jones, Samantha Jones, Hannah Jones, and eight great grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Norma (Ronald) Boyette, Elaine Whitehead, one brother, Larry (Freda) Jones, sister-in-law, Faye Jones, brother-in-law, Bill Hardison, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Haze Jones and Tom Jones, and sisters, Ruth Hardison, and Evelyn Rowland. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. David Turner, Dr. Amit Choksi, Dr. Justin Kropf, the second-floor nurses at Maury Regional Hospital and also Caris Hospice.Active pallbearers will be Alex Jones, Chris Burgett, Dylan Hubbell, Josh Jones, Josh Davidson, Blake Daniels, and Andy Handschug. Honorary pallbearers include Joe Reese, Daisy and Jack White, Sharon and Donnie Davis, and Elders and Deacons of South Gate Church of Christ.The family suggests memorials be made to South Gate Church of Christ Building Fund, 2700 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, TN 38401.
