Billy Joe Senter, 87, former longtime resident of New Cut Road in Columbia, died Saturday, September 14, 2024 at his granddaughter’s residence in Austin, Kentucky where he had made his home recently.

A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Philadelphia Cemetery on Fred White Road in Maury County with Rev. Jeff Kane officiating and military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday following the service at the cemetery. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born May 8, 1937 in Monroe, Arkansas to the late R. C. Senter and the late Wilma Sue McMurry Senter. He was enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958 and discharged from the Air Force Reserves in 1962. On August 14, 1958, he married Betty Fern Metscher Senter, and together they shared over sixty five years of marriage until her passing on June 8, 2024. For many years he worked for Service America servicing vending machines.

He is survived by his sons, Tony Dale (Roxanne) Senter of Hendersonville, TN, and Alan Wade (Sonia) Senter of Lafayette, TN; grandchildren, Scott (Heather) Senter, Matt (Cassie) Senter, Breeanna (Ryan) Ford, Josie (Auston) Harper, Krisston (Dustin) Jones, and Bradley (Taylor) Senter; and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Billy James Senter; and two brothers, Freddy Senter and Mickey Senter. 

Active pallbearers will be Bradley Senter, Scott Senter, Matt Senter, Ryan Ford, Auston Harper and Dustin Jones.
