Birdie Lee Dick Thompson, 84, former clerk for Stofel’s Boot Store, died Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at her residence on South High Street. A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Pastor Art McCormack officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 27, 1935 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late Marion Lee Dick and the late Mamie Jane Spires Dick. In 1949, she married Robert Lee Thompson who preceded her in death December 23, 1989. Mrs. Thompson dedicated her life to raising children, which included her own children and neighborhood children. She was of Presbyterian faith. Survivors include children, Robert (Diann) Thompson of Lynnville; Leroy Thompson of Columbia; Jerry (Jenny) Thompson of Fayetteville; Donny (Tammy) Thompson of Santa Fe; Jean (Scott) Churchwell of Leoma; Chris Thompson of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Regina Thompson of Columbia; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Earl Dooley. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Thompson; three brothers; and two sisters. Active pallbearers will be Ricky Baker, Robert Thompson, Olive Polanco, Brannon Churchwell, Chris Thompson, and Gene Hight.
