Bobbie White Williams

Mrs. Bobbie White Williams, 95, homemaker and widow of Franklin Carson Williams, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Life Care Center. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Prospect Cemetery in Prospect, TN with Rev. Tom Smith officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 222 West 7th St., Columbia, TN, 38401; Prospect Cemetery, c/o Alfred C. The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Edward C. White and Daisie Reed White. She was educated in Giles County and was a graduate of Martin Methodist College and Athens College in Athens, Alabama. She taught at Prospect High School in Prospect and other schools in Southern Middle Tennessee. During World War II she worked at the American Red Cross. Mrs. Williams was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women, Young at Heart, and the Ayers-Whitney Sunday School Class for many years. Also, she was a member of the Thomas McKissack Chapter of the DAR, an avid reader, and enjoyed playing bridge and gardening. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Cheryl Williams of Columbia; sister, Martha Hargrove of Birmingham, AL; two grandsons, Ben Williams of New York, New York and Joe Frank Williams of Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bitsie Elder, Ladye Stevenson and three brothers, Myron T. White, Owen E. White and Edward R. White.
