Bobby Joe Hemphill, 83, retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 CW4 in the Tennessee National Guard, died Friday, March 15, 2019 at his daughter’s residence in Mt. Juliet. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with Kenny Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00-7:00 P.M. concluding with a Masonic service at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to be made to the CFMT-Columbia Firefighters Memorial Park, 1000 South Garden Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com Born October 7, 1935, in Limestone County, Alabama, he was the son of the late John Harlan Hemphill and the late Daisy Mae Tillery Hemphill. Mr. Hemphill was a firefighter and worked for the Ambulance Service for several years. After retiring from the Tennessee National Guard, he worked side by side with his son, Tommy Hemphill at CounterWorks, and was a very talented upholster. Mr. Hemphill was a Master Mason of the Columbia Masonic Lodge #31 and of the Methodist faith. Survivors include his daughter, Beverly (Dale) Norman of Columbia; Judy (Chris) Fite of Mt. Juliet; grandchildren, Lindsey (Josh) Howell of Mt. Pleasant: Jerry Dale Norman of Columbia; Joey Norman of Columbia; Brenda Kaye (Brandon) Boles of Culleoka; Brent Fite of Mt. Juliet; Christi Fite of Franklin; great grandchildren, Will Boles of Culleoka; Briley Boles of Culleoka; Chelsey Norman of Columbia; Lily Grace Howell of Mt. Pleasant; Sadie Rae Howell of Mt. Pleasant; daughter-in-law, Jacque Bates Hemphill of Mt. Pleasant; and sister, Edith (Jerry) Woodard. He was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Hemphill; great grandchildren, Christian Norman, Clara Norman, Catherine Norman; and brothers, Don Hemphill, and Harold Hemphill. Active pallbearers will be Brent Fite, Joey Norman, Jerry Dale Norman, Josh Howell, Brandon Boles, and Will Boles. Honorary pallbearers include member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge # 31and retirees of the Tennessee National Guard 473d Support Battalion.
