Bobby Wayne Jones, 69, retired employee of General Electric and former longtime resident of Brown Hollow Road, died Sunday, January 29, 2017, at his residence in Rockvale, Tennessee. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Mylen Coble and Phil Mash officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late John L. Jones and the late Hazel Andrews Jones. On October 30, 1965, he married JoAnn Mathis Jones who survives. Mr. Jones served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Grapple ARS-7 in the Cam Ranh Bay during the Vietnam era. He was employed as gauge repairman at General Electric for twenty-two years and was also a courier for First Farmers & Merchants Bank for over ten years. In his earlier years, he coached softball and played while in Vietnam and on church leagues. Mr. Jones was a devoted member of Viola Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Treasurer. In addition to his wife of fifty-one years, he is survived by a daughter, Michelle Jones McBride of Rockvale; granddaughters, Madison Olivia McBride and Marlee Kate McBride, both of Rockvale; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Judy) Mathis of Culleoka; Gary Mathis of Columbia; and nephews, Jimbo Mathis and John (Marian) Isabell. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Jones Patty and Judy Jones Whitley. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Clark, Danny Clark, Denny Beaver, Nicholas Clark, Nicholas Andrews, John Tomlinson, Ken Dark, and Jason Dark. Honorary pallbearers will include special friends "Our Gang", men of Viola Baptist Church, and employees of First Farmers and Merchants Bank.
