MR. JAMES R. "BOBBY" NORTON Mr. James Robert "Bobby" Norton, 70, retired office manager for Columbia Power & Water System and former resident of Parkway Avenue, died Sunday, November 3, 2002 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 12:00 Noon at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Frank Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. Military honors at the graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Floyd Michael Norton and Idell Carrie French Norton. He was a 1949 graduate of Culleoka High School and attended Columbia Business College. While serving in the U. S. Air Force he did a tour of duty in Korea, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member and past Commander of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. He was a member of the Glendale United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ruth Gibson Norton in 1991 and a brother Lloyd Norton. Survivors include three daughters, Carol (Ronnie) Smith and Sandra Osborne of Columbia , Pat (Scott) Galpin of Johnson City; four sisters, Neva (Tom) Graves of Nashville, Mary Paul (Wendell) Lasater of Lewisburg, Sarah Gaines of Nashville, Gayle (Steve) Secrest of Columbia; a brother, Billy (Barbara) Norton of Nashville; sister-in-law, Jane Norton of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Lori Henson, Jason Osborne, Tony Henson, Matthew Osborne, Katie Galpin, Harris Galpin, Mary Grace Galpin; a great-grandchild, Caleb Osborne; several nieces and nephews. Nephews will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Columbia Power & Water System and members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19.
