View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Mrs. Brenda Kaye Petree Barnhill, 75, died Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Alive Hospice – Murfreesboro. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 5:00 P.M. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with Greg Daimwood officiating and members of the Columbia Fire Department Honor Guard. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 1:00 PM, at Halltown Cemetery in Vina, Alabama. Mrs. Barnhill was born January 31, 1945 in Red Bay, Alabama and was the daughter of the late Robert Clyde Petree and the late Iva Lillian Armstrong Petree. She married Arthur Smallwood Barnhill on June 1, 1963, who preceded her in death on August 9, 1970. Mrs. Barnhill attended school and graduated from Red Bay High School in Red Bay, Alabama. She married Arthur and moved to Columbia, Tennessee in 1965 where he was employed by TVA. She remained in Columbia where she operated a beauty salon, Shear Styling for a few years. She started working with the Register of Deeds in 1987 for the City of Columbia in the City Recorder’s office and later at Columbia Fire Department. She served as first secretary at the Columbia Fire Department under Chief Wayne Hickman, where she began in October of 1989 and then later retired in February of 2005. Mrs. Barnhill served as a volunteer at Maury Regional Hospital and also enjoyed making ceramics. Mrs. Barnhill was a member of the Ephesus church of Christ congregation. She enjoyed working in her yard and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her great joy. Survivors include her sons Stephen Barnhill (Julie Southard) of Port Saint Lucie, FL, and Scott (Carolyn) Barnhill of Lewisburg, TN; grandchildren Chelsea Barnhill and Danielle Barnhill; great granddaughter Payson Barnhill; several cousins; and special friends Faye Hartsfield, Sherry Voss, and Sandy Dodd Honorary pallbearers will include the past and present members of the Columbia Fire Department and the members of Ephesus church of Christ.
