Buford Nelson Allen

Mr. Buford Nelson Allen, 82, retired President of Allen Steel Fabrication Company and resident of Westwood Drive, died Friday, November 7, 2008 at Life Care of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Wendell Robinson and Glen Mayfield officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The Lawrence County native was the son of the late Jesse B. Allen and Stella Gowen Allen. He was a member of Graymere Church of Christ and the Loretto Masonic Lodge. Mr. Allen was a private pilot,flew out of Hunter's Field, and was a member of the Lawrenceburg Classic Car Club. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Edith Alice Hammond Allen of Columbia; sons, Gary (Joyce) Allen and Duane (Kay) Allen of Columbia; grandchildren, Rachael (Drake) Stanfill, Heather (Allen) Tettleton, Lori (Steven) Nixon, and Jared "Bubba" (Kristin) Allen; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronnie Allen of Lawrenceburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, J. B. Allen, Jr. Active pallbearers are Jared "Bubba" Allen, Steven Nixon, Drake Stanfill, Allen Tettleton, David Allen, and Randy Allen. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Roger Riddle Sunday School Class at Graymere Church of Christ.
