View Funeral WebcastBurdean Ray Hickman, 91, former resident of Santa Fe Pike, died Monday, July 18, 2016 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Bo Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Easter Seals Tennessee, 750 Old Hickory Blvd, #2-260, Brentwood, TN 37027. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born July 17, 1925 in Nashville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Presley Ray and the late Sadie Copeland Ray Sands. On August 9, 1944, she married Alvin York Hickman who preceded her in death March 19, 1997. Mrs. Hickman was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing for family and friends as well as the public. Her favorite pastimes include flowers, gardening, arts and crafts. She loved all animals, especially her Chihuahua, Taco. A polio survivor, she was a member of Polio Heroes. She was a member and past president of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 La Femme. Mrs. Hickman had been a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church for over fifty years. Survivors include her son, Phillip (Marie) Hickman of Franklin; daughters, Melinda Ray McAllister of Portland, OR; Alisa (Randy) Helmick and Cheryl (Jeff) Lovett, both of Columbia; grandchildren, John (Leanne) Hickman, Robert (Virginia) Hickman, Noel Hickman, Brian Hickman, Michael Owen, Cody (Kelly) Hill, Brianne Lovett Cannady, Nathan Lovett, Brooke Helmick Lyon, Paige (Cody) Stewart, Courtney Helmick; great grandchildren, Johnny Hickman, Melissa Hickman, Dominic Hickman, Chase Hickman, Dallas Cannady, Tyler Cannady, Lauren Cannady, Taegan Stewart, Rylan Stewart; several great great grandchildren; and two nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Ray. Grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
