Candice Brooke McFarland Walters, 26, private sitter and certified nursing assistant, died Monday, December 31, 2007 at her residence on South Main Street. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Homer D. Kelley and Brother Joe Macer officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Born in West Helena, Arkansas, she was a 1999 graduate of Columbia Central High School. She earned the rank of 2nd degree black belt at the age of 16 at Columbia Taekwondo and was a former National Champion in the sport. Survivors include her mother and step-father, Candy Hedrick (Terry) Stewart of Culleoka; her father, Bruce Wayne McFarland of Columbia; daughter, Candice Morgan Walters of Columbia; sisters, Kelley Stewart and Kelsey Stewart of Culleoka; paternal grandmother, Faye Brewer McFarland of Columbia; paternal great-grandmother, Desdie Roberts Driezen of Columbia; aunts, Sharon (Henry) Hulshof of Lewisburg, Mona Hedrick of Mt. Pleasant, Donna McFarland (John) Martin of Columbia; uncle, Bobby Hedrick, Jr. of Pulaski; cousins, Robert Brooks of Columbia, Marissa Malone of Culleoka, John Karter Martin, Mallory Loveless of Columbia; step-sister, Sarah Stewart of Pulaski; step-brother, Nicky Stewart of Columbia; special friend, James Turner of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Linda Cozart Workman; maternal grandfather, Bobby Hedrick, Sr.; paternal grandfather, James McFarland; step-grandfather, James "Bonedaddy" Workman; paternal great-grandparents, Bayla and James McFarland.
