Captain Billy Joe Filson, 74, dedicated 39 year veteran firefighter with the Columbia Fire Department and long-time resident of Woodland Street, died Friday, October 3, 2008 at Life Care of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12 Noon at Oakes & Nichols with Joe Macer and Jimmy Payton officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Maury County native was a 1953 graduate of Columbia Central High School and a member of Eastside Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marie Anderson Filson of Columbia; daughter, Pamela (Mark) Boshers of Spring Hill; his mother, Jennie Anderson Filson of Columbia; god-son, Mark (Julie) Filson; grandchildren, Ashley Marie Boshers, Eric Paul Boshers, Jeremy Wayne Filson, and Bryan Paul Filson; god-grandsons, Zack Filson and Corbin Filson; step-grandchild, Juanita Potts; great-grandchildren, Chase Filson and Sam Filson; step-great-grandchild, Anthony Bardwell; uncle, Tim Anderson of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Wayne Filson; his father, Paul Filson, and a brother, Timothy Filson. Active pallbearers are current members of the Columbia Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers include retired members of the Columbia Fire Department, Billy Lee and Robert Earl Lee.
