View Video Tribute View Funeral WebcastCarl Houston Baker, Jr., 75, retired owner and operator of Autobody Shop and resident of Columbia, died Friday, February 17, 2017 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Christine Penner officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of Carl Houston Baker, Sr. and the late Alberta Kinzer Baker. He was a 1959 graduate of Columbia Central High School and served in the United States Navy on USS Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He was longtime employee of Lucas Chevrolet and Cadillac, where he ran the body shop. He enjoyed flying airplanes and was a commercial pilot for many years. Mr. Baker was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. In addition to his father, Carl Houston Baker, Sr. of Williamsport, survivors include his son, Steven Houston (Tina) Roscoe of Redfield, Arkansas; sisters, Carol E. Baker of Williamsport; Melanie (Randy) Ford of Nashville; brother, William Bernard (Jorgi) Baker of Redding, California; and grandchildren, Lance Kinzer Baker of New York, New York; Kristin Darlene Baker of Conway, Arkansas; and Steven Tyler Roscoe of Redfield, Arkansas.In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Kinzer Baker in 2004. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
