View Funeral WebcastCarl Houston Baker, Sr., 100, retired master carpenter, died Saturday, July 29, 2017, at the home he built in 1964 on Williamsport Pike. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 2:30 P.M. at Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church with Rev. Christine Penner officiating. Inurnment will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born September 22, 1916, in the Santa Fe Community, he was the son of the late Sam Houston Baker and the late Rosa Beard Baker. On June 24, 1939, he married Alberta Mason Kinzer Baker; and their seventy-two-year marriage ended with her death on April 13, 2012. Mr. Baker was the last surviving member of the 1935 graduating class of Santa Fe High School. During World War II, he was employed with Monsanto as a defense worker. He retired as a master carpenter after thirty-five years employment with L. S. White Construction. Mr. Baker was a founder and volunteer for many years at the Tennessee Museum of Early Farm Life in Spring Hill. He loved family history and enjoyed farming, raising cattle, growing vegetables, and working on church building projects for many years. He had helped restore many of the historic homes and as many as twenty-one churches in Maury County. He was a seventy-plus-year member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. Survivors include his children, Carol E. Baker of Williamsport, William Bernard (Jorgi) Baker of Redding, CA, Melanie Baker (Randy) Ford of Nashville: grandchildren, Carl Blythe Nabors of Fayetteville, Steven Houston (Tina) Roscoe of Redfield, AR, Chelsea Adele Baker of Anderson, CA, Mindy Quiroz of Shingletown, CA; great grandchildren, Lance Kinzer Baker of Bronx, NY, Kristin Darlene Baker of Conway, AR, Steven Tyler Roscoe of Redfield, AR, Carl Mucke of Murfreesboro, Katharine Mucke of Cookeville; sister-in-law, Nellie Kinzer Elder of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Carl Houston Baker, Jr.; grandson, Jeffery Kinzer Baker; sisters, Eunice Hahn, Alice Lane, Helen Perry, Elsie Taylor; and brothers, Ray Baker and Clyde Baker.
