View Video TributeMr. Carl Hugh Kelly, 79, retired operating engineer in Michigan, died Saturday, October 14, 2005 at his residence on Todd Carter Road. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Robert Adair officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The Maury County native was the son of the late Joe Brunner Kelly and Fannie McClure Kelly. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church and Operating Engineers Local #324. His wife, Helen Jean Hughes Kelly, died September 5, 1990. Survivors include two sisters, Ruby Cowherd of Columbia and Marie Dawson of Birmingham, Alabama; a brother, Huey Roger (Jean) Kelly of Columbia; loving friend, Mildred Ragsdale of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mattie Potts, and three brothers, Herman Kelly, Frazier Kelly and Robert Howard Kelly. Members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Larry Ragsdale, Billy Owens, William Gemmell, Frank Burton and Marsh Dugger.
