View Funeral WebcastMr. Ezra Carmack Skelton, 74, well-known Church of Christ minister, passed away peacefully at his residence Saturday, April 25, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Graymere Church of Christ with John Vaughan, James England, Bill McDonald, and Dr. Tom Campbell officiating. Kirk Brothers will conduct graveside services at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the Carmack and Nancy Skelton Endowed Scholarship Fund at Freed-Hardeman University, established to train future preachers, c/o Development Office, 158 East Main Street, Henderson, Tennessee 38340. Notes of sympathy may be sent towww.oakesandnichols.com. Mr. Skelton was born in Wayne County on August 29, 1934 and was a graduate of Hickman County High School. He earned degrees at Freed-Hardeman University and Lipscomb University and later did graduate work at Peabody College and Harding University Graduate School. He was a pulpit minister for 40 years for churches of Christ in Lawrenceburg, Hohenwald, Nashville, Jackson, and Chattanooga. For over 12 years he was Associate Minister at Graymere Church of Christ. From 1956-1962, he was a member of the faculty of Lewis County High School. In addition to preaching, Mr. Skelton was an avid gardener and enjoyed woodworking. Preceded in death by his father, Thurman E. Skelton, his mother, Lura Mae McDonald Skelton survives and is a resident of Life Care of Columbia. Additionally, he leaves his devoted wife of 46 years, Nancy Hawk Skelton of Columbia; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dr. Tom Campbell of Franklin; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Misty Skelton of Columbia; grandchildren, Jacob Campbell, Logan Campbell, and Clay Campbell of Franklin, Ansley Roberts , Finley Grace Skelton, and Gunner Lee Skelton of Columbia; sister and brother-in-law, Freda and John Hall of Jackson; three nieces. Active pallbearers are Elvis Wiliams, Wayne Miller, Ward Harder, Larry Murdock, Carl Martin, and Jerrie Barber. Honorary pallbearers include Elders and Ministers of Graymere Church of Christ, George Brazelton, Bill Welch, the William-Riddle Sunday School Class at Graymere, formerly the Skelton-Hardison Class.
