View Funeral WebcastCarolyn Rodgers Hickman, 79, former longtime resident of Cheyenne Trail in Columbia, died Friday, February 9, 2018, at her daughter's residence in Antioch, where she had made her home for the past several years. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Perry Muse officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. and Tuesday from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to McCains Cumberland Presbyterian Church, P. O. Born June 24, 1938 in Columbia, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John Windsor "Wink" Rodgers and the late Rebecca Maron Jeter Rodgers. On May 5, 1957, she married Howard Wayne Hickman who preceded her in death December 18, 2009. Carolyn attended Andrews Elementary School where she was a cheer leader for the Football Team. She also attended Whitthorne Junior High School and was a 1956 graduate of Columbia Central High School where she was a majorette and member of the band. She attended Columbia Business College and Columbia State Community College. Carolyn was Little Miss Maury County in 1940, began tap dancing at the age of three, and performed in many dance revues. She worked for South Central Bell Telephone Company, was a teacher at King's Daughters' School; and had served as a Maury County Commissioner for six years. She had worked in several offices at Maury County Courthouse, including Registrar-at-Large office, Budget Director's Office, and County Clerk's Office. She was active in Girl Scouts of Columbia and served as Scout leader for several years. She had served as President of Riverside PTA, served on the Board of Directors for the March of Dimes and Neighbors Concerned, and was Executive Director of Maury County Arts Guild. She was the first secretary and charter member of Columbia Band Boosters. She was listed in Outstanding Young Women of America in 1971 and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Carolyn was a former member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, a member and past director of the church adult choir, and directed the children's choir for many years. In more recent years, she was a member of McCains Cumberland Presbyterian Church.Survivors include her daughter, Beth (Mark) Brothers of Antioch; granddaughter, Stephanie Brothers (Nelson) Barrera of Antioch; great grandson, Marc Andres Barrera of Antioch; brother, Jimmy (Ellen) Rodgers of Columbia; brother-in-law, Al (Leslie) Hickman of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Dennis Rodgers, Sr. and infant sister. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
