Carrie Thurman

Mrs. Carrie Wise Thurman, 90, retired grocery clerk and longtime resident of Brookside Drive, died Thursday, August 2, 2007, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Blackwell and Rev. James Moore officiating. Burial was in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Saturday after 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Willard Wise and Janie Greenfield Wise. She was married to William Edgar Thurman who preceded her in death on November 15, 2000. Mrs. Thurman was employed at Dowdy's Grocery Store from 1952 until its closure. She was a member of Viola Baptist Church where she taught youth Sunday School classes for several years. She was a member of Woodmen of the World. Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Sandra) Thurman and Jim Thurman, both of Columbia; one sister, Ophelia Foster of Williamsport; three grandchildren, Jennifer Kalifa of Murfreesboro; Justin Wilson (RaDonna) Thurman of Gadsden, Alabama; Eric Thurman of Columbia; three great grandchildren, Atticus Wilson Ridner-Thurman of Gadsden, Alabama; Ahlia Kalifa and Zaynab Kalifa, both of Murfreesboro; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. Pallbearers were Justin Thurman, Eric Thurman, Matthew Judd, Bobby Jones, Tim Holt, Johnny Burgess, Nathan Peery, Byron Peery, and Joel Wise. Honorary pallbearers were George Holt, Wayne Holt, Hugh Peery, Don Ridner, Danny Wise, Pete Reese, and Tony Foster.
