View Funeral WebcastMrs. Catherine Virginia Gilliam Dodson, 91, retired employee of Dixie Manufacturing and resident of Galloway Street, died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Kevin Maxey and Doug Hethcoat officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Lewis Gilliam and Pearl Mayse Gilliam. On October 31, 1944 she married Rabon Clyde Dodson, Sr. and their 57 year marriage ended with his death June 8, 2002. She loved her family very much and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed working in her yard and flower garden. Mrs. Dodson was a member of Mooresville Pike Church of Christ. Survivors include her children, Rabon (Linda) Dodson, Jr. of Columbia, Peggy (Bud) Poore of Nashville, and Donna (Mike) McDonald of Columbia; grandchildren, Brian Poore of Smyrna, Denise Jett of Culleoka; Cheryl (Tim) Thurman of Columbia; Greg Dodson of Euless, Texas, Jason (Carrie) McDonald of Mascoutah, Illinois; twelve great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her son, Roger Loyd Dodson; daughter, Elizabeth June Dodson; grandson, Michael "Jeff" McDonald; great great grandson, Liam Foxx; step-daughter, Shirley McCandless; brothers, Walter Gilliam, Loyd Gilliam, and Baby Boy; sisters, Nettie Lentz, Elaine John, Ann Reiter, Jessie Ruth Gilliam, Reba Gilliam, and Alma Gilliam. Active pallbearers will be Brian Poore, Jason McDonald, Greg Dodson, Dalton Poore, Tanner McDonald, and Tim Thurman. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Lori James and the Staff of the South Hall of Life Care Center of Columbia.
