Chancelor Lacy

Mr. Chancelor E. Lacy, 95, retired from Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company, died Monday, August 13, 2007 at his residence on Oakwood Dr. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Sam Boyd, Rev. Frank Smith, Rev. Jeff Jacob and Dr. Jim Hughes officiating. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service in the church atrium. A private family burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Louisa County, Virginia native was the son of the late Marmaduke J. Lacy and Josie Burruss Lacy. His family moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1920. He was a graduate of Haylong High School and Vanderbilt School of Engineering. While attending Vanderbilt he lettered in football and baseball. During World War II he served in Washington D.C. with the Bureau of Ships. For most of his career he worked for the Allis-Chalmers Co. and moved to Columbia following his retirement in 1979. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Margaret Alice Frakes Lacy of Columbia; daughter, Alice (Ronald J.) Wareham of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Hilda Wilson of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; four grandchildren, Anna (Joe) Koon, Nancy (Ray) Coskery, Brad (Emily) Wareham, Randall Wareham; two great-grandchildren, Virginia Coskery, Benjamin Coskery; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Lacy Parrish and a brother, Roland A. Lacy.
