Charles Hamlett Dial, 69, died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at his residence on Chapman Lane. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Vassar and Reverend John M. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 2:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Monday from 10:00 A. M. until service time at the church. Born February 18, 1948 in Culleoka, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Willie Robert Dial and the late Katherine Gower Hamlett Dial. In 1969 he was in the first graduating class of Civil Engineering Technology at Columbia State Community College. He retired from Aqua Terra Engineering as a civil engineering technician. Charles was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord, his family, and his church. He was a long-time member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, building committee member for the building of the new sanctuary and traveled on mission trips to Venezuela and New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. He was a former Boy Scout Master and Assistant Scout Master of Troop 103. Mr. Dial was a coach and assistant coach of various T-Ball, Softball, and boys' and girls' soccer teams in Columbia. He was always actively involved in the activities of his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, whom he married June 4, 1970, Laura Beard Dial of Columbia; daughters, Dawn Marie Sweat of Antioch; Peggy Marie (Scott) Stegall of Columbia; sons, Steven C. (Laura Lee) Dial of Columbia; Philip A. (Krista) Dial of Franklin; grandchildren, Alex Dial, Luke Sweat, Sara Grace Dial, Shelby Stegall, Samantha Stegall; brothers, Bobby A. (Joan) Dial of Smyrna; Billy (Barbara) Dial of Brentwood; Don (Judy) Dial of Mansfield, TX; Jimmy Dial of Jonesborough; three aunts; one uncle; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and host of dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Ann Dial Gifford. Active pallbearers will be Deacons of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers include the Sunday School Classmates in Co-Ed 7 at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church.The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Houston Jameson and staff of Maury Regional Cancer Center, Dr. Ben High and staff, Dr. Mark Cobb, Dr. Joel Kochanski, Hospice Compassus, and an extra special thanks to nurse Stephanie Huffman for all the love and kindness she gave to the family of Mr. Dial.
