Charles Edward Hall, 86, retried chemist for Occidental Chemical Company and resident of Lyon Street, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care.Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with David Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Pleasant, he was the son of the late James Earnest Hall and the late Hattie Virginia Thompson Hall. He was a 1950 graduate of Hay Long High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball; and he served four years in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged, he then attended Middle Tennessee State University where he graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. Mr. Hall was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed playing golf with his wife for over 50 years at Stoneybrook Golf Course. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was very active in the life of his daughter and only grandson. Mr. Hall was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, Stoneybrook Golf Course, and attended Highland Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Mary Naomi Goldman Hall of Columbia; daughter, Mary Carolyn (Terry) Thomason of Columbia; grandson, Colton (Megan McDaniel) Thomason of Columbia; brother, Roy “Tooty” (Virginia) Hall of Woodstock, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Jean Frank of Austin, TX; granddaughters, Rebecca (Todd) Paricio of Austin, TX and Jean Adele (Chris) Kelchner of Round Rock, TX; great granddaughters, Kate Kelchner, June Kelchner, Siena Paricio, Nadia Paricio; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Billy Chappell; sisters, Catherine Loy, Dorothy Lankford, Martha Ann Kelley, Sharon Hall; and brother, James Earnest Hall, Jr.Active pallbearers will be Donnie Boshers, David Potts, Jimmy McClain, Clark Bennett, Don Luna, and Rex Robison. Honorary pallbearers include Hay Long High School Class of 1950, and former employees of Hooker/Occidental Chemical Company.
