View Funeral Service Webcast Charles Edward Gilbert, 93, supervisor for Northwest Air Lines for 36 years, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at his residence on Richmond Drive. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Williamson officiating. A native of Herculaneum, Missouri, he was the son of the late John William Gilbert and Annie Edith Juliette Gilbert. While making his home in Columbia, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. A volunteer for nearly 20 years, he attained "Super Star" status with over 6,000 hours of service. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Jane Ellis Gilbert of Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Lee and Judy Pratt Gilbert of Columbia; sisters, Dorothy Schulte of Festus, Missouri and Doris Rabe of Pevely, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Doris Gilbert of West Frankfort, Illinois and Lorene Gilbert of DeSoto, Missouri; grandchildren, Lynn Brown of Knoxville, Karen L. Gilbert of Savage, Minnesota, and Logan M. Gilbert of Great Falls, Montana; great-grandchildren, M. Alexander Brown, Jacob E. Brown, Taylor L. Brown of Knoxville, and Jolie L. Hjulberg of Savage, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Gilbert and Bernice Gilbert; brothers, Ernest Gilbert, Dubart Gilbert, Frank Gilbert, Don Gilbert, Curt Gilbert, and Emmett Gilbert; sisters-in-law, Theresa Gilbert and Gilda Gilbert.
