View Funeral Webcast Charles Henry “Charlie” Southern, 76, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at home with his wife and youngest son by his side. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend David Buffaloe officiating. Burial will follow Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born May 8, 1943 in Maury County, was the son of the late Perry and Zora Warren Southern. For over 40 years, he was a welder and owned and operated Southern Wrecker Service. Mr. Southern loved his tractor, raising a garden and giving away what he raised. He married the love of his life and best friend, Shelia Gidcomb Southern of Columbia, and they worked side by side 24 hours a day for the last 22 years. In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Charles (Tammy) Southern, II of Culleoka; Joshua Southern of Columbia; daughters, Penny Covington of Culleoka; Laura Huckaby of Columbia; step-sons, Jeff (Amanda) King of Pulaski; Michael King of Nashville; John Collins of Trenton; step daughters, Rhonda West of Columbia; Kim Dalton of Columbia; sister, Ann Baucom of North Carolina; seventeen grandchildren, including his special little buddy, Johnny Collins; and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, J.M. Southern, John Southern; and sisters, Edith Love, Evelyn Thompson, and Beatrice Linville. Active pallbearers will be Jeff King, Michael King, Ethan King, Seth King, Tommy Thompson, and Bobby Atkison.
